The ground is completely dry and the weather may be a bit cloudy Saturday (and clear on Sunday) but it will not impact the area. Please spread this information far and wide! Perryopolis is just down the road!

Birney's Division will host the annual Civil War Reenactment in Perryopolis, Pennsylvania October 3-4. We are looking to turn out a great number of our troops in what is considered one of the best events in the Fall. Make sure to let your company commanders and battalion adjutants know what your numbers look like. This is a great time for the entire family.

Birney's Division Annual Meeting in November

Join us this year for the Birney's Division annual planning meeting held at the Civil War billeting facility at Sampey Park in Perryopolis, PA. Help plan out the 2016 events and discuss other ideas and issues. Along with staff personnel, each unit from the organization (infantry, artillery, and cavalry) should have at least one representative present, be it the unit commander or a designated person. If you would like to add anything to the agenda, please email Chief of Staff Colonel Chris Smith at clsmith@5thohio.com.

The billeting facility is made up of several reproduced Civil War buildings including barracks. Uniforms are recommended but not required. Overnight accommodations Friday night in the barracks are available upon request. Contact General Maffei at general_maffei@verizon.net. A lunch will be served at 11 am and the meeting will start at noon there will be coffee (so bring your cup).

Division staff changes

On behalf of General Maffei, I would like to announce that Andre Wagner will be moving to the Division Surgeon's Department with the rank of Major, and Andrew Benner has been advanced to the role of Chief Topographical Engineer with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.

Successful weekennd at Hale Farm

On behalf of General Maffei, thank you to all of the members of Birney’s Division who came out to the event at Hale Farm & Village this weekend. We had 106 troops on the field and the over-all reenactor turnout set a record for this reenactment. Everyone did a fantastic job. You all looked great! A special hats off to our band from the 73rd Ohio. What a thrill it was to march to marshal music and fight with them on the battlefield!

Don’t forget. Our year isn’t wrapped up yet! Two more outstanding events are coming in the next 60 days. Zoar, Ohio on September 19-20 (www.zoarcivilwar.com), and Perryopolis, PA on October 3-4 (www.perryreenactment.weebly.com). Make sure to get registered!

2nd Battalion Drill This Weekend

This Saturday starting at 8:30 am is the annual Birney's Division 2nd Battalion Drill. The link below is for the tentative agenda for the weekend. We have plans for rain or shine but the pavilion is perfect for under-cover classes. We are asking for a $5 fee to cover the cost of a port-a-john and the remainder going to the Lodge (owners of the site) as a donation. As Sunday is Mother's Day, we will be dismissing early on Sunday (10 am) to allow folks to get home and spend time with those special women in their lives. Come on out and get the rust off of that rifle and the funk off of the wool. See you there!
