Birney's Division and ANV host Civil War tactical

This is how you start the 2016 Civil War reenacting season right! Birney’s Division and the ANV will be hosting an old West Virginia-style tactical in Perryopolis, PA on April 29 – May 1, 2016. This is a NON-SPECTATOR event.

A "West Virginia" style tactical is a judged, unit-based, multi-layered series of problem solving scenarios in addition to engagements with enemy forces. CIVILIANS play a MAJOR part in these scenarios! Infantry, Artillery, Cavalry and civilians are all welcome.

Best of all, it’s FREE! We have a special Facebook page set up to share information. Go to www.facebook.com/CivilWarTactical and click the LIKE button on the page to get all of the latest information. There is also a link to the registration website on the Facebook page.

Please share this page with your friends!

Birney's Division announces permanent Headquarters

Brig. General Michael Maffei reveled that Birney's Division, one of the leading American Civil War reenacting organizations, has established a permanent headquarters location in Perryopolis, Pennsylvania. General Maffei will be making the official announcement during the annual Remembrance Day parade and festivities in Gettysburg that honor all of those who fought in the American Civil War.

Located 32 miles southwest of Pittsburgh, Birney's Division's new headquarters covers over 30 acres of battlefields, tactical warfare woods as well as 8 period log cabins and plank buildings constructed by the reenactors of Birney's Division and members of the 5th Virginia.

“We believe this to be one of the truly unique American Civil War reenacting venues.” stated General Maffei commanding officer of Birney's Division, “It is very rare for a reenacting organization to have its own 1860's period town and multiple battlefields. Birney's Division is indeed fortunate to have such a fine relationship with the township of Perryopolis and Sampey Park. We are also very proud that it is a favorite venue of the ANV (Army of Northern Virginia) who attend events there on a regular basis.”

The new headquarter facilities include a General Store, Federal Headquarters cabin, two-story enlisted barracks, as well as accommodations for Confederate forces. One of the battlefields also features the ability to deploy battle pyrotechnics controlled from a centralized location. The battlefield boasts earthen breastworks similar to those used late in the Civil War.

Birney's Division, named for Major General David Bell Birney, has over 700 registered reenactors. Currently, the Division contains two Battalions of Infantry, an Artillery Battalion, Cavalry, Medical personnel, a period Signal Corps and numerous civilian reenactors.

For further information about activities at Perryopolis, contact 1st Battalion Commander Colonel William Taylor, at commander@1stbattalion.com.

Get ready for the Birney's Division Annual Meeting

Our Annual Meeting is scheduled for Saturday Nov. 7, 2015 at Birney’s Division Headquarters in Perryopolis, Pennsylvania. Lunch will be provided at 11:00 am with the Annual Meeting to follow at 12:00 noon. We must have a fairly accurate count of who will be attending to order food. If you have not yet contacted me or a member of our staff please do so ASAP. There is still time to register. Go to www.2015birneysdivisionmeeting.eventbrite.com

There are many changes that will take place for the next season and we really would like all our members to be aware of those changes. It is very important that you have a representative at the meeting to relay the information to the troops, as well as give Birney’s staff your input positive or negative. The reason we have annual meetings is to bring all of us together to share thoughts and ideas and discuss the coming seasons events, so please come and join us for an exchange of information. Anyone who would like to come in on Friday night, we can put you up at one of the heated cabins in our park, just let us know your needs.
